Australia - Perth

Back to Index

I have just returned from Perth, Australia and thought I would post a comment on the 'free beach' nearby. It is called North Swanborne beach and is very close to Perth city centre. Follow the West Coast Highway until you see the signs for Cottesloe Beach, follow it until you reach the sea. Turn right (north) and follow the coast road until you come to a car park. On the beach turn right and about 200 yards further up the naturist 'free' area starts, although someone had removed the signs. There are dunes at the rear of the beach, which I am told can get busy on a windy day for shelter. The day I went it was 41 degrees and the sand was burning my feet. At the rear of the dunes is a fenced off military area. The sand is really white and the sea is great with enough surf for surfing or body boarding but doesnt get too crowded. Warning, there is no shade, no amenities so take plenty of water with you. A beach brolly would also be handy. The locals are friendly and will chat to you, but will tell you their life story at the drop of their trollies. All in all - its a great place to wander, swim and sunbathe naked, in a friendly safe and beautiful place. Defo a place to visit if you have the chance. I went in mid November and the flies were out early, as well as it being the hottest recorded November day for some time. It is usualy around 32 degrees, but the flies I am afraid, are ever present and annoying - but there again, they are all over WA anyway. Happy free beaching Denny
