Re - Lake District Holiday

Back to Index

I went up to the Lake District a week at the beginning of October. This isn't the ideal time for naturist activities, but I was mainly going for the walking. However I was of course open to any reasonable chance to get naked. The holiday really started on the preceding Friday, when the prospect of good weather encouraged me to add a days flexi leave to the holiday and go down to the beach at Eastney near Portsmouth. The weather was mainly sunny with a little cloud building up at times. There were quite a few nudists out there in contrast to the adjacent textile beach which was much quieter. The sea was still pleasantly warm and I went in a couple of times. I really enjoyed what was almost certainly my last visit there this year. It was a good finish to the season. I travelled up to the Lakes on the Saturday, and in the evening I drove down to Poulton Le Fylde, for the naturist swim there, which is organised by the Blackpool and Fylde club. I'd "booked in" for it during the preceding week by phone. It was over an hours run from where I was staying but well worth the journey. The swim, sauna, and the meal at an Italian restaurant afterwards were very enjoyable. On the second day the weather was reasonable and in the afternoon I visited the unofficial nudist beach at the north end of Walney Island. This area is about 30mins walk from the nearest car park. The tide was well out as I walked along the sand near the top of the beach. Part way along the walk I saw a brown figure in the way out on the sands, and wondered if he (or she) was nude. This was confirmed when a white patch appeared about halfway down as shorts were pulled on. The cover up was due to the others who were getting somewhat closer than myself. Apart from one solitary nudist on top of a tall dune, there was no one else around when I reached the naturist area. I climbed into the dunes, undressed, and sat quietly enjoying the scene for 20mins or so. Eventually as there was no one in view, I decided to start walking back, but this time out on the sands, which would mean I could see anyone you approached from a good distance. I probably managed to walk for 15mins before another walker started getting too close, and caused me to cover up. My second and last time naked outdoors came a pleasant surprise. On a dull and damp Friday afternoon I went down to the very bottom S.E corner of the Cumbrian coast. The weather dried up and brightened just a little when I arrived. Looking in the distance I saw a wooded headland along which a footpath ran, so I thought I would walk that way. However before getting there, the road passed close by a small cove, and I walked on to the empty shingle beach. On the right hand side of which there was a small low headland with rocks below. The tide which was falling, and just low enough to allow me to walk around below the headland. After looking further beyond the rocks, I saw another small cove, which again was empty. I returned to the middle part, where although the rocks were more rough than smooth, I found a place where I could sit down. I decided that it was warm enough to undress, and for the next 30 minutes watched the mudflats dry out and the bird life return. It was all the more enjoyable because I never expected to get the chance to get my kit off given the weather. If it had been a better afternoon I would have gone to Walney Island again, but as things turned out I was almost certainly better off where I was. There was no particular problem being naked in the flat I was staying in. All the windows had curtains or blinds unlike, the Devon cottage previously described in the blog. The high spot of the walking part of the holiday was a visit to Wasdale on a perfect day with a few friends, and doing a walk which took us on a circular route over Pillar. The conditions gave us some great views across the mountain tops.
