Well the note in the holiday reports section of the forums asking for reports says...."or even a textile only holiday”.... so here goes !
The holiday was actually during the last week in June, and started on the same weekend as Nudefest. We stayed in one of a group of self catering cottages on a farm near Modbury which is in south west Devon. As you may recall by late June the best of the summers weather was over, but it wasn't all bad by any means.
We traveled down on the Saturday, arriving in the early evening. Sunday was used to visit friends living in the area.
During the week we had a couple of visits to Salcombe, which is in a beautiful setting, and a great place for anyone interested in yachting or other boating activities. Some of beaches within the estuary are sandy, and ideal for children. I found that the sea was warm enough to go for a swim on both visits.
Another days excursion took us to the village of Beesands, where a swim was followed by a good lunch at the Cricketers pub, which is situated right on the front. Afterwards we drove part way towards Start Point before parking up, and walking the rest. We arrived in time to join a tour of the lighthouse which was open for visitors. Like all the others around the coast is now normally unmanned.
On the Wednesday we caught a train from Ivybridge to St Austell and visited the Eden Project. This was the first time we'd been and it was well worth the trip. Naturally with the events of the previous Saturday evening on my mind, I couldn't help thinking how nice it would be to be naked in the biomes. At lunchtime enjoyed the excellent pizza's served one of the restaurants.
Friday saw us doing a circular walk from a cliff top car park, west along the South West Way to Noss Mayo, where we enjoyed an excellent fish and chip lunch at the Ship Inn. The post lunch walk to get back to the car was fortunately much shorter.
On the last day (Saturday), we returned home driving most of the way in the rain.
Was there any nudity on the beach or elsewhere I hear you ask. Well I wasn't expecting any (as my wife isn't interested), and I wasn't disappointed ! Actually things were more restricted in the cottage than I expected. The kitchen windows never had any curtains and faced across a drive to another cottage opposite. Likewise the top half of the front door had a plain glass window, and no curtain.
Now I enjoy having breakfast in the buff. The kitchen was used for dining as well as cooking, and on the first morning I felt rather exposed and chickened out and dressed. However later on when I viewed the kitchen from the drive outside, I decided that nothing below waist level could be seen, so on subsequent mornings breakfast was taken in my normal lack of dress. I was pleasantly surprised that my wife didn't start getting worked up about my being seen. In the evenings, as the lounge faced the same way, I could only undress once it got dark and the curtains were drawn. Trips to the kitchen were generally undertaken without switching the lights on !
Overall the above was just a slight annoyance, and the cottage was otherwise comfortable. Assuming you enjoy the countryside and coast, its a great part of the country to visit, and for those of you are able to take advantage, there are one or two nudist beaches in the area as well.
