I've just got back from Amsterdam, a little dazed and confused in some respects, even though I didn't go near the happy tobacco.
Right outside Centraal Station, there are two huge Spencer Tunick murals, proclaiming to be part of the "I Amsterdam" promotion (for which we bought the cards) and stating that there was an exhibition from 23/6/07 to 31/8/07. The picture also featured a link to the website www.dreamamsterdam.nl and a note to check out that website for locations. Our hotel wanted 35 cents a minute for Internet access (yes, that's 21 Euro an hour) so we went to the easyInternet Cafe, which was great except that it wouldn't allow me to install Flashplayer and the Dream Amsterdam site wouldn't work without it.
Tunick's own website was, as usual, declaring nothing more than the fact that all of his future 'installations' are fully subscribed. No mention of any galleries where you might see an exhibition of his work. Nothing!
So was that the exhibition? Having now been able to log into the website with my own PC, I've discovered that it was... or at least a part of it. As far as I can fathom (and it's still not much clearer than mud) the work is being exhibited outdoors in several locations across the city.
So I'm feeling rather disappointed now. Okay, so I saw part of it, but I'd have taken the trouble to find the rest if I'd had access to the information. I now have an idea of where to find the rest of it, but no doubt it'll all have gone by the time I get around to going back.
I might just drop them an e-mail and have a moan. I don't know if I should gripe at Dream Amsterdam, easyInternet, or both.
