Fraisethorpe Beach

Back to Index

I've just watched the Look North report on Fraisethorpe beach about the decision to ban naturists because of the unsavoury activites of a few people (obviusly not, I trust, genuine naturists), I attach below a copy of the email I have just sent to the programme:

As a practising naturist I was saddened to learn that, finally, the unsavoury activities of a few people, who are certainly not genuine naturists, has resulted in a complete ban on nude sunbathing. Even the two non-naturists who were briefly interviewed had no objection to naturism.
Is it really beyond the limits of a council to recognise an obvious and established need for a naturist space? Why not designate a section of the beach for naturist use and have it patrolled as a deterrent to those who try to indulge in unsavoury activites? For that matter, why not have all beaches patrolled, whether naturist or not. It's not only public sexual activity which spoils our beaches: broken glass, litter, used syringes, unlicenced pedlars, drunks and yobs also play their part in making some of our beaches less family friendly than once they were.
In Germany, where there is a much more relaxed attitude to naturism, some cities happily accept nude sunbathing in public parks and open spaces, so for UK naturists to ask for a section of a beach to be set aside for their use is hardly much to ask.
Yours sincerely
Tony Fielding-Raby
