If you hover your cursor over the icons an explanation will show.
The icons are from left to right:-
Latest Items - all the latest posts
ITB Resort - ITB's own virtual Resort with puzzle
Messaging - check out your messages
Buddylist - check out your buddies
Profile - edit / change your profile
Gallery - members photo albums
Blogs - read Buffer's blogs
Chat - join the chat room
Who's online - check out who is around on ITB
Forum - read the forum posts
Popup Message Centre - keep a watch for received messages
