Tything Barn August 2006

Back to Index

Ah well, here I am stuck in a hotel again with far too much time on my hands. I've been dabbling with the blogging in Windows Live Spaces, so I might as well have a go here too. Tything Barn was gorgeous as ever, in spite of not getting the best of the weather. With hindsight, we didn't pick such a bad week - the following one had a lot of heavy rain. I'm not one to be naked if it's going to be uncomfortable, and I had no problem staying undressed for the whole week except when going off-site, so it can't have been that bad. This was our third visit to Tything Barn and fifth to the Tenby area, and we still haven't run out of stuff to do. Although having the little 'un puts a different spin on things, and we're now going to places that we'd probably never even have considered as a couple. Pembrokeshire Motor Museum is worth a visit. It's not huge by any stretch of the imagination, but admission rates are reasonable, and they'll actually let you take photos rather than try to flog you their own glossy compendium. For those with children, Folly Farm is worth a visit - again, very reasonable admission rates (made even better thanks to a £10 discount voucher from Tesco) and plenty to see and do. It's far more than the 'petting zoo' than I expected it to be. Back to Tything Barn, and while it drizzled a bit, we got enough sun to make me go a slightly darker shade of pale. We made some good friends, one of which you'll sort of see blurred out in the photos (we had his permission to take the picture, but I thought it best to blur him out before putting him on the web at high resolution.) That green floaty thing in the lagoon is a nightmare though - I managed to get on it on the second attempt, but the first time around I fell off and cut my foot on something sharp under the water. It's a good job there are no sharks in there, because there was quite a bit of blood. It's more or less healed now, though I still can't wear my proper shoes for work. It put a damper on the rest of the day (fortunately our last anyway) but certainly hasn't put us off going back. We even went for a midnight walk on the supposedly haunted island in the middle of one of the lagoons. I took the night vision camera to film anything interesting, but Sony aren't as clever as they like to think, and the infra-red range on the thing was next to useless. Apart from some strange noises, nothing particularly spooky happened. It's a shame really - I was going to call it The Bare Witch Project. Anyway, before I go, just one thing: Can anyone from the area explain the local obsession with "Foam cut to size"? Everywhere you look, there's a sign offering this service, but they're few and far between everywhere else we've been. I've stuck a few photos in the new gallery section if anyone wants to see them.
