InTheBuff.co.uk hosts it's own jabber chat service. You can use any jabber chat client to contact other ITB members to chat with them. Jabber chat clients come in a range of alternatives, from web based to full on interactive clients similar to MSN/Yahoo.
Unlike MSN/Yahoo the jabber chat is global, and any internet party can run a server, and they link all together across the globe, so not relying on a single company. And what's more the clients (chat programs) rarely come with the built in advertising of MSN and Yahoo. Although all the instructions shown will log you into the InTheBuff.co.uk chat server, remember even if you sign up to another server eg. jabber.org, you will still be able to log through into the ITB chatrooms, but your client will log through via the jabber.org server (handy if you want to install a full client without showing that it's other buffers you really want to chat to! |

Now for the clients to connect you to the chat services.
Java based chat clients These chat clients download to your PC as and when you need them, after logging out you'll probably need to re-download to log back in. JBother Chat Client Jeti Client Full download clients These clients download on to your PC and can run alongside the likes of Yahoo and MSN etc. , allowing people to send you a quick message whenever you are online, they will show you as away if you are idle for some time, and also you can show as invisible when you don't want to be disturbed. Exodus GAIM Chat Client - with Gaim, you have the option to put your yahoo and MSN accounts in the one client, so you don't need 3 clients, just the 1. Pandion Chat Client HTML Clients HTML clients run over traditional web services, and will be slower, they don't download to your PC.
