BN event at York's Maize Maze

Back to Index

Although a member since 1985, last Saturday (30th July) saw me at my first vist to a BN event..and what a great event it turned out to be! The Maze is exactly that - a maze created in a vast field of maize on the outskirts of York. This year's 'theme' was Star Trek - 'tho you'd never have guessed it whilst wandering through the maze looking for the answers to the 6 set questions! However, the aerial photo souvenir postcard proved an invaluable buy - not only to see the design of the maze but also a guide to finding the way out! A smaller maze held various mirrors, printed designs etc that created optical distortions and illusions, and in the main open field there was a pedal-power go-kart track and various other 'test your skill' activities. A jazz band on top of an open bus made a good effort to provide some additional entertainment but unfortunately had problems with their sound system. Within minutes of entering the Maze I had no idea where I was but, by chance, I met up with a fellow single. We went on to follow the clues and find the answers together - something I couldn't have done alone as I was never a 'Trekkie'! Wandering the Mazes we met up with loads of fun people - everyone helping each other with the clues etc! The BN reps had an excellent display and were more than willing to chat and advise. The rain held off, it was pleasantly warm enough to wander the Maze naked, the atmosphere was great, and friendships were made! I must say "Well done!" to BN for arranging the event - and a big 'Thank you' to all the staff involved at the Maze, and to all the nudists who turned up to make it such a great evening! I understand that the event will be held again next year so watch out for the date as its something NOT to be missed! Oh yes...were there any other 'Buffers' there?
