TARA May 06

Back to Index

Well that was our first experience of UK naturist holiday and..... Thanks for the information we recieved from folks on here, it all helped one way on another. Having heard a variety of reports over the years from people we decided to experience our first UK naturist break at Tara this May BH weekend. We found the site pretty easily with a combination of their instructions plus an OS map...none of that fancy TomTom stuff for us. we actually arrived a good few hours ahead of plans, but following info from here we rang ahead and were warmly greeted by Alan and Hilary (who we found out later are not naturists...???) They have had the site for about 9 years. The rules and regulations we felt were pretty in keeping with other textile commercial sites we have stayed on and to be honest we found TARA to be much more relaxed and friendly in comparison to some textile places we have been on.....particularly that what you were quoted was what you paid...we had no extra charges once we arrived (hot water/showers etc) the exception being the once weekly sauna. We had opted for a serviced (super) pitch which Alan and Hilary helped us get the van onto. The roadway is narrow in places and rather than churn up the verges we detached the van and pushed it into place. The site has about 14/15 touring pitches, the rest are seasonally let and consequently the place has what I would guess is a club feel. There are large numbers of folks who seem to be there all the time and no doubt have been attending for years. The site was spotlessly clean, particularly the newish toilet block. The block had two seperate male/female areas with toilets, wash basins and shower along with a comunal shower area. There was a washing up area along with washing machine etc. The advertised ammenities included minten courts which required correct footwear to maintain the surface, outdoor/indoor pools, putting area and boule court. The clubhouse was well used in the evenings, although we did pas on the bingo session (I would rather have hot needles pushed into my figernails!!!!) The whole site is surrounded by a narrow woodland strip which does proved a walkway, but this is not totally private and does back onto other public area so its a clothed walk. The site owners have planted many conifers to try to help screen out but this is a couple of years away. Would we go back...yes Would we recommend this...yes Will we try other places...yes oh and by the way...the weather was lousy!!!
