Several people have asked me why my nickname is Mother - not least, I suppose, because I'm a bloke. So I thought I'd use the blog facility to fill you in.
When my kids were young, my wife left and I became a single Dad. I thoroughly enjoyed bringing up the sprogs including those occasional times when one or other of my two daughters would call me "Mum" !
Then, in 1998, I played the lead in a musical called "La Cage aux Folles". My character was a gay, transvestite female impersonator whose real name was Albin but whose performance persona was called Zaza. He had a partner called Georges who had a son. Zaza was effectively Mother to this lad and towards the end of the second act pretends to be his real Mum who has failed to turn up to meet the future in-laws. Still with this? ![]()
Soon members of the company were calling me Mother and the habit spread to other friends and the nickname stuck!
Hope this explains it all clearly!
