Welcome to nakedwalk.org
W e l c o m e to nakedwalk, the official website of the Naked Rambler Stephen Gough. nakedwalk was originally set up to promote and support the second Naked Walk from Land's End to John o'Groats which started Thursday 16th June 2005 - and finished in 2006! It's still here while Steve continues his fight for freedom against the Scottish authorities who insist on incarcerating him in Saughton prison, while he's not actually committed any criminal offence.
On this second historic walk, Steve was accompanied by his friend Melanie Roberts along the entire route. They were joined by several others, including the author, for anything from a few hours to a few weeks - all walkers always naked except walking boots - and all almost always receiving support from the Great British public everywhere they went - until they reached Scotland. The number of 'complaints' en-route were few - even fewer than on the first solo walk in 2003 to 2004 - with none 'actionable by police', until they reached Scotland. Despite the 'complaints' still being few and far between, these resulted in charges for Breach of the Peace. The law is different in Scotland. In some cases they were both found not guilty, despite Steve refusing to dress for court. Why compromise his beliefs? To do otherwise would be to pre-judge his case and imply that nudity and self-determination is only acceptable in certain places. This was aptly highlighted in the BBC One Life programme, screened Thursday 8th December 2005, which featured Steve and Mel from the outset of the walk. The rest is history as they say, and you can read various news reports about his hearings over the past two years during which he's spent much of the time in Saughton prison. If you feel inclined, you can write to him in Barliney Prison where he is currently being held. The address is:
      Stephen Gough
      Human Rights Political Prisoner
      Segregation Unit
      HMP Barlinnie
      Glasgow
      G33 2QX
This article published just after Steve was moved from Saughton prison in Edinburgh to Barlinnie, reports on the cost and continuing impasse.
Steve appreciates all the letters he receives and replies to all of them.
The fight will continue until the Scottish authorities responsible for Steve's incarceration recognise his Human Right to Freedom of Expression and that Breach of the Peace requires more than simple nudity as determined by the Scottish judiciary.
You can follow the route and progress they made on the walk by following the 'Location/Daily Update' below.

Coming soon in 2008...
"The main hangup in the world today is hypocrisy and insecurity. If people can't face up to the fact of other people being naked, or whatever they want to do, then we're never going to get anywhere. People have got to become aware that it's none of their business and that being nude is not obscene. Being ourselves is what's important. If everyone practised being themselves instead of pretending
to be what they aren't, there would be peace." John Lennon
SCOTLAND is some years behind the rest of the UK as these NAKED PROTESTS show.
IT'S HAPPENING AGAIN NOW! Read what Russell Higgs, human right's activist and naked protestor, had to say about Steve's incarceration in Scotland in 2003 here.
