Meercats and Boys in the Dunes, Holkum

At certain times the 'Meercats' in the Dunes and 'Boys' with their friends who are 'playing' in the dunes can spoil the wonderful atmosphere of Holkum Beach. Try to see the Mini Series by Stephen Fry 'Kingdom'. Many of the beach scenes were done from the beach looking in the distance towards the Pine trees at the Eastern side of the Harbour Entrance at Wells. Recommend that you keep to the seaward side of the dunes and the top side of the beach

John

Any directions you have would be most useful for any places - just add as a comment so others can read :)

If it is a place that doesn't yet have a page, feel free to drop me an email and I'll set one up with any details

Also any reviews of places are always welcome

.... and anyone can make notes/comments - even if it just to describe your experience of a place, even a place you visit often, as it will help others make up their minds to visit (or not)

Re - Roanhead and NUFF

No Pat, I haven't given any feedback regarding Roanhead to the NUFF site, mainly because I only made one attempt to find it and may have misinterpreted their directions.

I don't know how often they update their information, as in 2007 I went to Studland and found that the 150 bus to Swanage which the site says passes Branksome station no longer does so. I sent them an email (which I think was acknowledged) giving directions as to where someone arriving at Branksome would need to go to catch the bus, but the information on the site has never been amended.

Location

One of the reasons for updating this was to add the location to the ITB Naturist map - so if you are stuck finding somewhere - check out the location on the Naturism -> Naturist Map

The Naturist map allows you see naturist places as pins in a map and makes it easy when traveling to find a place to visit.

Have you given feedback

Have you given feedback on that to the NUFF site John?
A post on NUFF states that the beach does not have a postcode but the nearest dwelling is the chalet park at Earnse Bay, their postcode is LA14 3XZ. Would that be any help?

It looks like a great beach. For some reason, perhaps I'm just thick, I couldn't find it when I was in the area, using the directions on the NUFF site.

Not as far as I am aware ... all was fine early 2008.... Only policing was by Rangers and they seem to be friendly..... Mr Bun

Calshot beach directions

The only naturist part of the beach is at the extreme west. Park in the first car park just as you hit the beach road (unless some free on-road parking is available on the road to and from the beach). Go to the sea, turn right and start walking. You will come to some groynes after ten or so minutes - that is it. Access to the beach ceases a little further on due to a bird sanctuary.

Calshot is small, and does suffer from yachties & motor-boaties with binoculars passing by from Cowes and the Solent clubs. It is shingle so a towel and sandals are needed. The water is quite clean.

Winterton Dunes

My wife and I used to visit Sea Palling and Horsey - a bit further along the coast and enjoyed many weekends sunbathing, and when a bit quiter, swimming naked. We also visited Winterton and found it equally nice. Most people on the beach did not venture very far from the car park so, by walking along the beach for a while you could easily find a spot to shed your kit. Swimming naked was also possible at times.

There is a nice pub in Winterton; we mean to return and stay there for a while, using it as a base to explore the Norfolk coast.

Point of Ayr/Air = Talacre

I think this beach is sometimes referred to as Talacre. The OS also used to spell it as Point of Air.

Hi Will
never heard of this beach before but see there is a caravan holiday park nearby.
This beach is not mentioned in NUFF or when seached on internet.Which seems very rare as most beachesare noted elsewhere as well as here.

Keep on Smiling
